Each summer at Sewanee, aspiring young musicians gather to study, perform, and share their musical lives. The atmosphere is intense but supportive. Faculty mentors work closely with their students, and learning takes place across a full spectrum of activities. Students perform at least twice weekly, in both orchestra and chamber music, and attend faculty and guest artist concerts, master classes, and other special events.
The SSMF curriculum:
- Intensive private lessons
- Weekly performance opportunities
- Major orchestral repertoire
- Daily coaching and classes
- Creative environment
- Professional orchestra environment
- Renowned conductors
- Immersive chamber music experience
- Master classes and seminars
- Orchestra fellowships
Orchestra and chamber music assignments are based on ability and experience and change weekly, affording leadership opportunities to many.
The schedule is rigorous and requires students to balance many demands on their time, but the opportunity for personal and artistic growth makes a summer at Sewanee an unforgettable experience.
